Another Day Older

Happy Birthday, big brother!

It's so weird having a big younger brother.

I think Mom was saving all the good food for you, so you'd be big and tall. Or maybe it was all those treats at 7-11.

We're so glad you came along, though. Certainly we didn't want Craig to grow up all alone! But being the younger brother isn't always fun, so perhaps God decided you needed some compensation for it, and gave you a few advantages. Like height. And curly hair.

So those warnings we gave Craig when you were both younger - "You'd better be nice to him, because he might grow up to be bigger than you, and then you'll be sorry if you haven't!" - were real. I do hope he was nice to you, and that you have wonderful memories of the years you spent hanging around with each other.

And I hope you have a wonderful time on your birthday!

I think it was the fact that drank Isomil until he hit puberty. That's some powerful stuff!

Now that you mention it, he was the only one that had to drink that stuff due to whatever weird allergy he had. When James had something similar, we just had him drink rice milk.

Milk allergy isn't weird; it's actually pretty common. After all, cow's milk is custom-made for... baby cows. It does go undiagnosed quite a bit though, because the more subtle signs are blamed on something else. Kelly's reaction was so obvious even the doctors couldn't miss it... and when Mom tried putting him back on cow's milk when he was a toddler, he ended up in the hospital. Since there were no milk subs available back in the 80's, Isomil was all there was for ol' Kel, even as an elementary school kid. Now every grocery store you walk into has a variety of substitues: rice milk, soy milk, almond milk... there's even potato-based substitute. But none of them are packed with all the nutrients of baby formula, which is probably why Kel got to be our Big brother. :-)

Can we go back in time and give ME some of that stuff??? I wouldn't mind being a bit taller.
